Does Nigeria need re-inventing?

My Thesaurus gives create as a synonym of invent and for our purposes here, create also means to discover, to conceive or to originate. It also gives make-up, fabricate, and cook-up as its other synonyms.

To fabricate, on the other hand, implies the use of disparate materials or entities to create a new material, entity or equipment, while cook-up means to prepare or to throw together. The mere fact of throwing together indicates that the creation or the fabrication could have been done haphazardly.

Re-inventing, therefore, presupposes that a creation, a fabrication or a cook-up had earlier taken place and for some reasons, there is a compelling need to look at that earlier process with a view to creating or fabricating a much better entity, systematically, based on definable and acceptable parameters.

Nigeria had been in existence in disparate and thriving entities but was created by Lord Lugard in 1914, through colonial fiat. This throwing together, or cook-up as cynics would say, had brought together fiercely nationalistic societies merely for administrative convenience. No homogeneity was achieved by that colonial contrivance nor was any intended. Most tellingly, none has resulted some 94 years later!

Can Nigeria still achieve that homogeneity? Is it by re-inventing Nigeria? How do we do that?
